Happy New Year!

Got Cabin Fever?

baby hand on rainy windowRainy days can be very difficult for parents with little ones. You don't need to go stir crazy; there are many opportunities for indoor (and outdoor) fun.
•  Don't fight it! Get out those galoshes and go puddle stomping. Try Glen Canyon Park and PlaygroundCrissy Field, or Fort Funston –  lots of mud and great stomping potential. Bring a towel to dry off with and a big garbage bag for your dirty clothes and boots when you're done.
rain boots in puddle• Cruise the Mall. You're probably sick of shopping right about now, but a mall trip can give everyone the opportunity to stretch their legs when the weather gets really bad.
•  Check out a museum. Try the Randall MuseumMOMAMuseum of Craft and Folk Art, or the Museum of the African Diaspora. See our Museum Page for all of the museum free days.
• Try the City College Child Observation Classes or Rec. & Park Tiny Tots program.
• Take a dip! If you are already wet, why not take a swim? See our listing of pools for some ideas about where to go.

purple circleParents Connect

Connecting with other parents is one of the most important things you can do for your family because it's good for your sanity and well being. There are many ways to connect – new parent groups, play groups, and online resources. See our Parenting Page for some ideas about where to start.

One of our favorites are the City College Child Observation Classes. Read The Benefits of the CCSF Child Observation Classes by Susan Rahman, a CCSF staff member who runs the Eureka Valley Rec. Center program, for more info.

Other great resources for connecting with other parents are locally-based Yahoo groups. For a lighthearted look at these groups read Suze Allen's piece Yahoo for Yahoo?
