Description

The Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC) offers sailing classes to people from all walks of life and different socio-economic backgrounds. The club was started by a group of sailboat racers who wanted to make a difference in the sport of sailing in the Bay Area.

Classes:
TISC offers sailing classes to kids ages 7 and up of all ability levels. Classes are offered after school and on weekends. Need-based scholarships are available.

During the school year, TISC offers a beginner/intermediate Optimist class and an Optimist race team for kids ages 7 to 14. There is also a high school team for kids in grades 8 and above. Anyone can join the team—no experience is necessary.

The majority of the kids who participate are from various outreach programs in the City, including kids with special needs. TISC hosts high school racing teams that compete with other Bay Area sailing clubs. TISC also has an Adaptive Sailing Program that introduces sailing to children and adults with special needs and manages a competitive training program for those training for the US Paralympic Sailing Team.

Camps:
TISC is a great place for kids who are interested in sailing to learn the sport in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. You can opt to sign up your child for Adventure Camp, which combines sailing with kayaking, kite flying, and all kinds of fun activities.

Getting There

From San Francisco, take the Bay Bridge and stay in the left lane to exit at Treasure Island. The exit road will merge onto the road that runs down the west side of Yerba Buena Island (overlooking San Francisco to the west and Clipper Cove to the east). Continue down the hill until you reach the gate that guards the entrance to Treasure Island. Continue through the gate and take your first right onto California Avenue. You will see several large buildings on your right. After the last building, turn right on Avenue "I." Drive straight (south) along the building to the facility.

Muni: 108 departs from the Transbay Terminal and stops near the facility.
