UCSF's Outdoor Programs offer a variety of programs for families, especially those with older children. Group adventures include backpacking, sea kayaking, water rafting, snowboarding, and skiing. They offer outdoor/wilderness safety and first aid classes. Most programs are held on weekends.
Classes: Weekend and day trips are available for the entire family. Trips are designed for families of all ages looking for a little quality time in the outdoors. These outstanding adventures are led by professionally trained staff who are fun, outgoing naturalists and educators, well-experienced in working with youth, and trained in first aid and CPR. They provide all food and equipment needed and take care of all the logistics for the trip. You'll do nature walks, camp crafts, games, and have natural history discussions. Past trips have included: Santa Cruz Mountain camping, Sunset Paddle and Pizza Dinner, Morning Sea Kayak Paddle, Tidepooling, Angel Island Exploration, Heart's Desire Family Beach Day, White Water Rafting on the Klamath, and White Water Rafting on the South Fork of the American.
Gear: UCSF Outdoor Programs rent out a variety of camping, backpacking, and winter sports equipment including: wetsuits, bike and ski racks, boogie boards, kayaks, coolers, tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, backpacks, and much more. Equipment may be reserved in person (at the rental center) up to one month in advance.
