Description

Children's Discovery Museum (CDM) is rated as one of Child magazine's ten best children's museums in the United States. Thirteen exhibit galleries and program spaces house over 150 interactive exhibits and programs and provide learning experiences in the arts, sciences, and humanities for children of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and interests. These experiences build upon children's fundamental need to learn by doing, fully engaging their senses, and challenging their minds.

This is an awesome place for families, scout troops, schools, and, of course, a place for kids to be kids! Come and play at the museum, take a workshop, register for summer camps, have a birthday celebration, have lunch, or just hang back and let the kids explore.

Camps: Their Summer of Service summer camp invites kids entering grades 7–10 to join community service teams that visit different volunteer sites all over the Bay Area.

2010 Summer of Service Two-Week Sessions:
Dates: June 21–August 13
Ages: entering grades 7–10
Days/Times: Mondays through Thursdays, 8:45am–3:30pm, Fridays, 8:45am–5:30pm
Cost: $400–$425 per session; financial aid available
Extended care: 7:30am–8:45am, 3:30pm–5:30pm ($150 per session)

Celebrations: What a great place to have a party! Kids will love being able to explore all that the Museum has to offer. Party packages include admission, one hour in private birthday party room, a hostess, gift bags, return visit passes, invitations, and maps for each guest. The maximum attendance at each party is 16 children and 8 adults. Party packages are $250 and up. See their website or call the birthday party coordinator at (408) 298-5437 ext. 268 for complete party information.

Parent Resources: CDM has a variety of online projects that your child can do at home or as a school project. Learn to make playdough, create a tornado, or learn mapping skills, to name a few. Other topics include art and music, science, reading and writing, math, and society. All activities are broken down by age group.

What We've Heard
"A great place for all ages. Easy to get to, very clean and secure for children. The outdoor space is large to let the kids run around or enjoy a picnic."
