The Asian Art Museum is the largest museum in the western world devoted exclusively to Asian art. It has permanent collections of art from over 40 Asian countries which are rotated regularly so that visitors can learn about all cultures of Asia. The major themes are Buddhism, trade and cultural exchange, and local beliefs and practices. Special exhibitions highlight works by classical and contemporary Asian artists.
The museum has a variety of programs for families. Visit on Family Fun days, storytelling on Sundays, and events and performances related to their special exhibits that focus on specific Asian countries and cultures. Most events are free with museum admission.
$12 per adult, $8 for seniors, $7 for college students and youth 13-17. FREE for SFUSD students with ID and kids 12 and under. FREE every first Sunday of the month. Thursday nights are $5 for everyone.

The museum is located right in the heart of the Civic Center, next to the Main Library. Metered street parking is difficult but there is a city-owned parking garage below the Civic Center plaza.
