The Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE) strives to make Jewish education fun, engaging, and exciting for people of all ages and backgrounds. They have a library that has the largest public collection of Jewish books in Northern California. The library also hosts cultural and literary events, as well as special programs for children several times a year.
Camps:
BJE hosts a Special Needs Family Camp Weekend for families with children with disabilities. Activities include singing, yoga, arts and crafts, hiking, swimming, Israeli folk dancing, "no shush" family Shabbat services and Havdallah, discussion/support groups, and outdoor games. 2012 Family Camp Weekend:
Dates: May 4–May 6
Days/Times: Friday 3pm through Sunday 1pm
Cost: $260 per adult, $190 per youth ages 3 to 18; $100 deposit; balance due March 23
Grief and Growing is an annual camp for bereaved families and individuals, held at Camp Tawonga near Yosemite. Activities include workshops with clinical grief specialists, Jewish spiritual perspectives, nature activities, art, music, massage, yoga, healing memorials, Shabbat in nature, and more. Call (415) 751-6983 x105 for more information. Grief and Growing is a partnership of the Bay Area Jewish Healing Center, Bureau of Jewish Education, Camp Tawonga, and Sinai Memorial Chapel.
