Days and Hours Of Operation
Bay Area residents are drawn to the 2,571-foot peak of "Mt. Tam"—and rightfully so. But the state park's redwood groves, oak woodlands, 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, campgrounds, and picnic areas are worth the windy drive from the City. Other activities include astronomy evenings, geocaching, rock climbing, and, of course, the Mountain Play in the spring, which has been going strong since 1913. The spectacular outdoor amphitheatre on top of Mount Tamalpais has featured famous productions such as The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, Hair, My Fair Lady, and much, much more.
Mountain Plays: $40 per adult, $30 per youth ages 4–21, $35 per senior 65+. Children 3 and under are FREE.
Getting ThereFrom San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take 101 North. Exit at Highway 1/Stinson Beach and follow signs up the mountain. Plenty of parking available.
SFKids Tips*Drive all the way to the top for a 360-degree view of the Bay Area, from the hills to the ocean.
