Description

Locals shy away from this famous tourist spot but there are a lot of things to do at Pier 39. Besides all the restaurants and shops (many of them kid-friendly), the whole family can enjoy Aquarium of the Bay, Players Sports Grill & Arcade, a beautiful carousel adorned with paintings of San Francisco landmarks, street performers, Theatre 39, and best of all, the sea lions that have been hanging out at the docks since the early '90s. A recent addition is the 7D Ride where you will experience the thrill of a roller coaster and the excitement of an interactive laser blaster, all without leaving your seat in a state of the art digital theater with surround sound, 3D effects and the newest in laser technology. .

Pier 39 hosts wonderful events throughout the year. The most popular ones are the Fourth of July Waterfront Celebration, Fleet Week in October, Pumpkin Pandemonium around Halloween, and the Holiday Tree Lighting around Thanksgiving.

Cost
Visiting the Pier is always free but some activities have fees.

Getting There

Parking garages are available across the street. The Pier 39 garage is probably the most expensive (over $20). Go a few blocks away and find it for half the price for all day parking ($12).
